Reverie
Debussy
Reverie ("Daydream"), L. 68 (formerly L. 76), is a stand-alone piano piece that Claude Debussy wrote in 1890; it was published by Fromont in 1905. When it was about to appear, Debussy told his publisher it was a thing of no importance, written very quickly, yet it has become one of his best-loved piano works. Over a gently rocking left-hand accompaniment, a long, dreamy melody unfolds in F major and rises to a single forte climax. The theme then returns in the left hand beneath flowing arpeggios, before the piece fades away. Tempo marking: Andantino sognando.
